What is butt dialed?

Butt dialing, sometimes referred to as pocket dialing, is the accidental dialing of a phone number caused by a physical action of the buttocks or legs of the phone's owner, as when carrying the device in a pocket or purse. This action can result in the unintended recipient of the phone call hearing a conversation or background noise, or in some cases, leaving a voicemail message that was not intended for them. Butt dialing can occur with traditional cell phones, smartphones, and other mobile devices with a touch screen or keypad. Some phone manufacturers have implemented features to prevent accidental dialing from occurring, such as lock screens and delay timers, but butt dialing remains a common occurrence.
